Fed signals ending of an era

Investors responded positively to a more hawkish tone displayed by the Fed as minutes published from its latest policy meeting revealed details of its plan to end its huge bond buying program. Equity bulls have come to dread the ending of the era of loose monetary policy, fearing that the lack of cheap money and liquidity would send global stocks into a downward spiral. However, in what was a refreshing twist, markets concluded that the withdrawal of stimulus scheduled for October all but confirmed a strengthening US economy which no longer needed crutches for support. The ensuing boost to sentiment helped the Dow and S&P 500 rebound 0.5% after having suffered a sharp two-day selloff.
